Best use of the day: take a wildlife and sea-otter cruise, visit the Alaska Raptor Center, or combine Sitka National Historical Park and downtown. This is not the port for a long excursion deep into the countryside. A 2½–4 hour wildlife or highlights tour leaves plenty of time to explore town and return comfortably before sailing.

This is your big excursion day. The standout choice is the White Pass & Yukon Route Railway, either by itself or combined with a Klondike/Yukon sightseeing tour. You can also walk historic Broadway, visit the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park, and still have time for lunch and shopping. Royal Caribbean specifically highlights the historic railway and Gold Rush attractions here. 

Enough time for one major adventure plus downtown. The best choices are Mendenhall Glacier, whale watching, or a combination whale-watch + glacier tour. A helicopter/glacier landing is another spectacular option if weather allows. I would aim for an excursion finishing by about 3:30–4:00 PM, leaving time for the waterfront and an easy return to the ship.

Because you arrive in the afternoon the best choices are the Inner Harbour, Parliament Buildings, Fairmont Empress, downtown, and Fisherman’s Wharf. A guided evening city tour also works very well. Butchart Gardens is possible only if the excursion is specifically timed to your ship, because it requires travel outside downtown and your visit is only seven hours.

  • North Star® — A glass observation capsule rises high above the ship for panoramic views. This is especially impressive in Alaska with mountains, islands and coastline surrounding the ship. 
  • SeaPlex® & Bumper Cars — The huge indoor activity complex includes bumper cars and other games, making it a good choice when Alaska weather is cool or rainy. 
  • Two70® — Floor-to-ceiling windows provide spectacular daytime scenery; at night the venue transforms with giant screens, robotics, aerial performers and productions such as Starwater. 
  • FlowRider® — Royal Caribbean’s 40-foot surf simulator. Even if you don’t participate, it’s entertaining to watch. 
  • Rock-Climbing Wall — Climb while surrounded by ocean and Alaska scenery. 
  • Indoor and outdoor pools — Particularly valuable on an Alaska cruise because Quantum has sheltered spaces for cooler weather. 
  • Adults-only Solarium — A quieter enclosed area with expansive windows, probably one of the best places onboard to relax and watch Alaska scenery.
  • Live shows — Quantum features production entertainment including Starwater and other theater shows. 
  • Dance classes, trivia and game shows — Good lower-key sea-day activities. 
  • Pickleball and table tennis — Also listed among Quantum’s current activities. 
  • Bionic Bar® — Watch robotic bartenders prepare drinks. 
  • Specialty dining — Choices include Wonderland, Jamie’s Italian, Izumi and Chops Grille. 
  • Your own square & round dancing — This is what makes your group cruise different from simply booking the same Royal Caribbean sailing independently.
